Why did amsoil changed their oil filter ratings on their filters? It used to be 98.7% efficient at 15 microns. Since when did they change it to 20? Have they been lying all this time? This is ridiculous.

This still doesn't explain how the same media can have two different ratings.

The primary reason for the slight change in Beta rating (efficiency) of the AMSOIL filters was to allow for an increase in oil flow. They found that in a few cases flow restriction, while still acceptable, was higher than desirable. Remember that typical filter efficiencies are only 20 micron “nominal” which means they only remove 50% of the particles of this size or larger.

Smart idea!!

Actually I would prefer a higher flow filter than the super low micron rating. The Harley Davidson 5 micron filters being a good example. The 10 micron ones just seem to work better but HD had put small oil jets in the Twin Cam engines along with plastic cam chain tensioner shoes that shed material into the oil system. Solution: 5 micron filter...then everyone starts complaining about top end noise...from oil starvation. What a coincidence.
