Is anyone on here now using, or have any experience with using the Amsoil MTF Synchromesh Fluid in a 2000 model year vintage Tremec T56 gearbox??

I am looking for; smoothness, lack of grinding/'notchiness', gear/blocker ring/synchro protection, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, and it was very good except for when the T56 was stone cold (it was a bit 'notchy').

I figured that the 1.0 cSt lower (and higher VI) Amsoil MTF would be one of the best shots at getting something in between D4 ATF and MTL (without mixing the two).
(Maybe I could even run it year 'round, including the dead of winter!

Not so sure what will be the net effect on the trans seals going from a high group 5 content fluid to a high group 4 fluid though.

The Red Line D4 is about the most stout Dex 3 type ATF out there (they claim it actually meets/surpasses GL-4 specs!!

But I was looking for something just a little bit thicker, especially for the summer months.
I just hope that I am not going to be giving up anything by going to a lesser group 5 content basestock.

Which vehicle is the Magnum gearbox going in??

A car I'm putting together for a guy, 2004 Mach 1 with a Modular Performance built Oliver rod 4V and a Vortech.

Do you ever experience gear grind/crunch? If so,between which gears and is it if you shift too fast?

Yes, I have.

First and MOST blatantly with RP's SynchroMax (SORRY NE HEMI

) in EVERY/ANY gear, and even shifting like a granny. This was even in the summer (when I tried it), and I dumped it the very next day!
(It felt like it was destroying the gearbox JUST SITTING IN IT, such was the grinding/crunching/etc.!!

)

Next, the Red Line MTL, ONLY when stone cold in WINTER, when trying to shift somewhat quickly on the 1-2 shift it was notchy with a very slight grind.

The GM/Pennzoil Synchro was about the same, in the same conditions, as the MTL.

I was going to try the Torco Manual/Synchro fluid, but IF the MTF Amsoil does not work out, I may try a 50/50 mix of D4 & MTL next.

I wonder what`s up with manual transmissions these days? My Z had a 1>2 gear crunch that FINALLY went away after a long fill of Amsoil MTG (I`m just going to leave it in for the life of the car). My friend`s Mazda 1993 RX-7 turbo has gear crunch if you try to shift too fast (isn`t shifting fast what makes expensive sportscars fun?),and I read where BMW`s,Vettes, and all other high end cars have gear crunch as well. I worked with a girl who had a late 90`s era Mustang GT that would crunch 1>2.

Opinion on D4 in the T56? My T45 loved D4 above all others, but that's a T45.

You know, it was EXCELLENT in the cold/cool weather, and basically shifted just as well in the heat.

But I was worried that it might shear down too much in extreme summer heat, despite it being as over-built/stout/shear-resistant as it may be.
Plus I wanted to experiment a little since so many others have claimed how "butter smooth" the Amsoil made their (albeit different) gearboxes.

I guess I could always go back to the D4 (which is ~$2.00/qt. LESS THAN the Amsoil products, retail to retail), and just change it out once a year right before the summer.
