Amsoil in 94 Civic?

Hey guys, i drive a 1994 Honda Civic Ex with an m24a auto trans. I've tried Mobil 1 syn atf that says its ok for atfz1 and i like it better than z1 as far as shift firmness and performance, def not as smooth of shifts as z1 thought, but i like the firmer shifts. I was thinking about trying Amsoil syn atf, or maybe redline or royal purple. Or maybe even the new honda dw1. But most likely Amsoil.

Also, i have read alot about using lubegard High Friction Modifier in honda auto trans. would i need to use this with amsoil atf?or suggest to use it with amsoil? does adding the HFM make it slip more, or less?

With Amsoil ATF you won't need the FM. It probably isn't necessary for a 1994 anyway.

I wouldn't add anything to Amsoil ATF. I have not run other synthetic transmission fluids. I do know that it holds up very well, 85K and still looking cherry red in my Dad's van when I changed it out. I could have run longer, and probably should have done a used oil analysis.

I was very impressed........I normally change it out about 50-60K. I just realized after looking at my log that I have 37K 5 years on my present change.

Many Honda auto transmissions shift like manual transmissions, which is VERY unlike most transmissions with bands and clutch packs.
Friction modifiers for auto transmissions are made to slip.
You can take a chance and it might help.

iff adding friction modifiers will make it slip more i dont want it, i want firmer shifts,and less slipping. so amsoil atf with no additive?

Sorry for bumping this thread, I didnt want to start another thread, its been a while since I've been on here.

Which atf would you guys suggest? No z1.

-Stick with the Mobil "synthetic" atf that (used to) say is ok for H/A z1
-Amsoil atf
-Redline atf
-Royal Purple ATF
or some other good syn atf?

I would go with the Amsoil Atf. No additives....it will prob be cheaper price than the other 2 also if u a PC...I have it in both my 93 f 350 manual 5 speed, and 98 neon auto...

Im not worried about one being cheaper, just looking for the best performer in a 94 civic ex m24a 4 speed auto. I've added an external atf cooler and magnafine inline atf filter, but want the best syn atf I can use..

anyone else have any suggestions? I'd like to get alot of suggestions before I go and buy a whole case of atf....

I have been using Amsoil ATF exclusively in my 1993 Civic auto trans. I have 337,000 miles on it now, switched to Amsoil at 120,000 miles. After 217,000 miles I can make some observations. The transmission operates like new, has firm shifts (not so firm as to loosen fillings), the fluid is cherry red when changed, a miniscule amount of wear metal is evident on the neodmium drain plug magnet. This atf is superb, I very highly recomment it in your Civic.

Ok, seems like everybody is suggestion AMSOIL, but which one? Syn multi vehicle atf, syn fuel efficient atf, super shift atf etc....

And absolutely NO additives?

Also, does it matter which way the Magnafine atf filter is mounted?

I installed the filter when I installed the larger atf cooler, but didnt pay attenetion to which way the atf was flowing etc...

^Wow, can't get better experience. What was your service interval like with the Amsoil since 120k miles onward as well as filter changes?

Amsoil lists the lubricants and other interesting info on a vehicle by vehicle basis on their website. If your vehicle is spec'ed for an Amsoil ATF then I highly recommend it.

The Magnefine filter has an arrow on the case. I would make sure its flowing the right way. It can be mounted backwards and will be OK. It may have to do with the order (magnet then media or opposite) and/or bypass. Given the cut open Magnefine filters I have seen posted here and my own, I would say if the media gets filled you have some major problems.

Initially, I changed the fluid according to Honda's recommendation (15,000 miles). Now I just change it every 30,000 miles whether it needs it or not.
