I asked this question directly to Amsoil regarding their XL series of oils last week and this is the response I got:
"Thank you for contacting AMSOIL with your concerns,
In response to your inquiry, AMSOIL does not recommend mixing viscosities of oils due to the chemistries
Thank you again for the opportunity to respond to your concerns. As always, please feel free to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.

Of course there is a difference between not recommended and "don't do it" and the situation is different. I was asking if a 50/50 mix of 5W-20 and 5w30 would work and I hadn't yet bought the oil. They recommended not to so I can choose one or the other and start fresh so to speak. Since you already have the oil and they are very close in viscosity, although different blends, I think you can still do it, but like Pablo said, it is not recommended for a long OCI. Also, it is probably not "ideal" but I see a lot of people on this forum doing it without obvious ill effects.
