Is there any reason NOT to mix Series 2000 0w30 and Series 3000 HDD 5w30 oil? I am changing all my vehicles over to to the Series 3000 and have a few quarts of Series 2000 left over.

Thanks

It won't be harmful, and the add packs are quite different - but the limiting factor will be two fold. Amsoil will not stand behind you (probably very low risk) and mixing is certainly not recommended for a long OCI.

What OCI are you contemplating?

I asked this question directly to Amsoil regarding their XL series of oils last week and this is the response I got:

"Thank you for contacting AMSOIL with your concerns,

In response to your inquiry, AMSOIL does not recommend mixing viscosities of oils due to the chemistries

Thank you again for the opportunity to respond to your concerns. As always, please feel free to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Of course there is a difference between not recommended and "don't do it" and the situation is different. I was asking if a 50/50 mix of 5W-20 and 5w30 would work and I hadn't yet bought the oil. They recommended not to so I can choose one or the other and start fresh so to speak. Since you already have the oil and they are very close in viscosity, although different blends, I think you can still do it, but like Pablo said, it is not recommended for a long OCI. Also, it is probably not "ideal" but I see a lot of people on this forum doing it without obvious ill effects.

In my 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan, with Series 2000, I have been doing 12,500-14,000 mile OCIs. On my 96 Cherokee with Amsoil dual bypass, 14,00-15,000 rural mail route miles OCI with 1 qt make up oil halfway through. On my 92 Chev Luminia which my college student son drives, 1 year (less than 10,000 miles) OCI. Already changed over to the HDD on the Jeep, now going to change over the other vehicles on next oil change. Going to do the van this weekend, the Jeep will be due in about 4 weeks. Blackstone UOAs are good on the Jeep and Van, have not done one on the Lumina.

Mixing the two probably won't cause any serious problems, but those are different chemistries so I would not mix them, especially not to save a couple $ on a couple left over quarts. I'd just use the remaining S2K in lawn equipment or something.
