Does anyone happen to have, or know of, comparable UOAs of similar AMSOIL & Syntec motor oils?

I know this is a shot in the dark, but as similar of vehicles as possible and common oil weights (plus the possibility of the same lab) could give a fairly decent idea of the two. I've searched and not come up with much in hand.

VOAs would be icing on the cake!
Thanks in advance.

Oh, I understand the deviation that there is going to be between even two "identical" vehicles. I was just curious.
There isn't a question in my mind, I'm just interested to see if there was even anything out there like this.

Comparable UOAs? You'll just have to search and read them to find what you're looking for. And draw your own conclusions, of course.

Keep in mind that both Castrol and Amsoil each make group III and group IV synthetics.

I'm not really considering Amsoil's XL line, although that may be more comparable, so you know.

No one is going to spoon feed you UOA go search through the thousands of UOA like the rest of us! Not trying to be a jerk but too many people expect too much spoon feeding of information! Also no one is going to have anything labeled Amsoil versus Castrol Syntec in a nice spread sheet for you!

Amsoil's XL line is probably supior to most of the other so called "Synthetics" that are on the retail shelfs. Last I checked Mobil-1 was the one company holding out the longest on "true synthetics" onthe retail shelfs but I think even they have caved in and started putting some GIII in some of their products! The other's like RTS,PP,Castrol Syntec,Valoline Synthetic have been GIII's for at least 7 years maybe 10!In fact PP's claim to fame is it's ability to clean up to XX% of sludge out of your engine the first time you use it!

Syntec,PP and most of the other's have been under welming to me. It takes more then some low wear numbers to impress me but many on this site are easy to impress and they get drunk off the price!!!I do not lower my expectations just because I the price is cheaper. Since any discount or price is factored into the product long before it hits the shelfs all I care about is the performance. I do not like oils that have poor tbn retention or low flash points in real world use.

Would I use PP or Castrol Syntec if the price was right? Yep sure would but it would not be based on their performance being great and I would not kid myself about it either. Many people like to delude themselves about the performance of an item because they are using it!I have one standard and it does not move around.

Nothing on a retail store shelf is going to compare to Amsoils top of the line products but you ahve to look at the price point as well. When you factor in shipping, plus your $20 a year preferred membership price their top of the line stuff is what $14-$16 a quart? Even their XL line is more thent he best Mobil-1 product say their 0W40 which is $6.29 a quart at Walmart.

I have not taken Castrol seriously as a synthetic since they first switched to G-III to replace the PAO in their old 5W50 product.IN fact the lab results that Amsoil post's on their site are all independently done and are industry standard test's. So if you want to see how Castrol compares to Amsoil and other synthetics I would take a look at that first! I think it becomes clear though that M-1 is the best stuff on a retail shelf since it comes in second to Amsoil in 6 of the test's performed which is more then any other product!

JB, Amsoil does not cost that much. ASL 5w30 at retail including shipping and tax is about $10. With the preferred customer discount it is less than $8 including shipping and tax. The XL is $8.00 retail and $6.27 preferred customer price. These prices are for ordering a single case and would be less with multiple cases.

John, your continuing comments about Amsoil are nothing less than outrageous. You can fabricate a scenario where it is $16/qt, but it isn't.

Hey Beancounter- I'll spoon feed you my Amsoil Oil analysis:

Blackstone Labs.

Miles on unit:17k

Miles on oil:15k

Make-up oil: .5 quarts.

You've run this oil for about 88% of this young engine's life, and that's the reason that we are still finding high
iron, copper, and silicon. We normally expect wear-in to be past by the time you get to about 10,000 miles, but when
you run long oil changes from the start, the process takes longer. You'll get there eventually, though you could speed
the process along by changing the oil at 7,500 miles next time. Note fuel at 3.0%. This is more than we like to see but
hopefully it's from rings seating. The TBN read 4.1 showing some active additive left. Check back.

I assure you that I tried searching through the site, but like I said, I was looking for fairly comparable applications at a minimum, and that was much more difficult to find.
And of course there is no spreadsheet, that is why I am looking for the "rough" figures myself.

Well of course I have seen that, but when asked for a source, folks are often skeptical about the manufacturers website; hence my search for more information.

Thanks for the input.

Thanks.

I'll search for similar vehicle application for comparison.

As far as the price of oil goes, not that I believe Amsoil will always cost you more by any means, but I figure people spend extra on their vehicles when it comes to vehicle maintenance like soaps, waxes, etc.
Even IF it cost me a few extra bucks throughout the year, is it not logical to spend more on the lifeblood of your motor as much as anything else?
Maybe that's just me...
