Amsoil BMK-13 Dual By-Pass Pressure Drop?

After reading so much here on by-pass systems and their advantages I went ahead and installed an Amsoil BMK-13 Dual mount on my 06 F-150 today. So my question is this, I already drove the truck a few miles an everything appears to me ok. I have no leaks and my the oil pressure gauge that came with my truck says my pressure is fine. So what I'd like to know is if this system causes you oil pressure to drop because I'm not sure if Ford installed the oil pressure sensor before or after the FF? It's already dark here but tomorrow I will post some pictures for all of you to see the set-up but overall everything came out great. The only thing that hung me up for a while is that it took me longer to put together the hoses that everything else combined. Thanks in advance!
 
I think that you have an idiot needle ..in fact I'm sure of it.

There will be no reduction flow whatsoever as long as your oil pump is not in relief (in a perfect world w/o pumping losses). Since you don't have a real gauge, it's going to be hard to determine what that pressure is.
 
Gary, I'm thinking about installing a true pressure gauge on my truck and I'm thinking about installing the sender on the output side of my dual mount. If I do this will the pressure reading that I will be getting be the actual pressure that's going into the engine or should I find a better place to put the sender? Right now I have a petcock installed on the output side that I could probably just move to the input side that the restrictor is on but I'm not 100% sure of that.
 
It should be very close. There will probably be some minor loss (elevation) in the lines. I'm unfamiliar with the parts list ..but does the tap come with a separate AN/JIC to NPT bushing? The mount is, IIRC, a 3/4-16 thread (#12AN) w/O ring.

You might consider, if it's not in too tight a location, just tee-ing in where the current sender is.
 
What I'm planning on doing is looking for a 3/14-16 cap with the correct thread in the center for the sender I'm planning on installing. I'm sure that something has to exist that will allow me to do this because it's basically the same way that Amsoil's petcock is set up.

I was originally planning on installing a BMK-11 instead of the set up I have now but the problem that I have is that since my trucks a 4x4, I have that differential under my engine. This pretty much makes everything under the engine impossible to get to but I'm going to take a closer look tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Right now I already have 1k on this system and so far I haven't experienced any problems whatsoever. At around 1500 miles I'm going to run a used oil analysis to see how everythings going and then again at 5k.
 
It looks like the BK13 (part number) will give you what you need to put a gauge in there. If you want to keep the sample tap ..get the street T, BP33, too.
 
Thanks a lot! I see that Amsoil was way ahead of me and that parts going to make installing a gauge a breeze. Thanks again and I'll post up my PSI readings as soon as the gauge is installed.
 
What readings do you have? I am interested because I have a BMK-13. It is going on my 2k3 Durango with the 4.7 motor. Oil pressure drop has me worried that I may cause some kind of oil starvation on my engine. If I see that it is OK for someone else I am going to have it installed.

I doubt you have enough volume to worry about it. Aside from the lines, the bypass valve in the full flow limits the PSID across the mount. The only know issues is with something like a PS diesel where the flow potential is up to 30 gallons.

Keep in mind that the only time you can have a true pressure drop (and the reduction of ANY flow) is when the pump is in relief. Otherwise is just adds "back pressure" ..the oil just accelerates through whatever obstacle it encounters.
