I have a Jeep Liberty CRD and the manual specifies 5W40...they use Mobil 1. I am a big fan of the Series 3000 5W30 HDD and wonder what you think would be better.

I am wondering about a few specs that differ:

5W40 DEO (CJ-4) KV@40C=92.6
KV@100C=15.3

TBN=8

Verses

Series 3000 5W30 HDD KV@40C=64.6
KV@100C=92.6

TBN=12.2

VI on on both is 176/174 respectively
Flash Point is 439F/442F
Pour Point is -47F/-58F

Based on these numbers should I be worried about using the 5W30? The Jeep Liberty CRD is a 2.8L Intercooled Turbo Diesel that puts our 295 foot pounds of torque in stock form. Thanx in Advance!

Both are good oils but I would use the S3k 5w30. The Mobil 1 5w-40 is an outstanding oil, but with the S3k 5w30 you'll get better fuel economy and possibly engine responsiveness.

The DEO would work pretty good, especial with ULSD. The HDD is on the Amsoil recommended list. I think you need a XW-40 for this engine.

Best however is this:
Amsoil AMO 10W-40 It has a high TBN, great 40wt, and don't let the 10W fool you - the beauty of synthetic shines at low temps. To the point that yes the 15w40 AME would work OK too. Lots of choices with synthetic oils.

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W40.
