Notes from Blackstone: 'Looks like you're sticking with 8,000 miles on the oil, and this Sunfire is still wearing very well. Miles are steady and low, same as they have been over the last couple of years. You can see your own averages in the unit/location column. Your engine makes less iron than most, but other than that it wears exactly the same as other GM 2.2L engines. The TBN read 4.1, higher this time than usual. Factors such as driving conditions can affect a TBN. No contaminants were present in this sample. Looks great!'

My Notes: ' I can feel a difference between Amsoil 5w30 ASL and Amsoil 5w20 XL. Definitely prefer the lighter weight oil. Engine feels like it has more lower end torque and more "sporty" through the RPM band (much more willing to go past 4,000 rpms). I used Amsoil ASL 5w30 because I had 3 quarts of it left over from an earlier oil change. Amsoil 5w20XL is back in the crank case.'

Looks good. Amsoil seems to have strenghtened ASL over the last couple of years - Boron and Ca seem up slightly. Looks like it would go about 12k comfortably...any consumption/top-off?

150k miles on an '04. You still doing your insane commute everyday? I'm assuming so!

Hey addyguy - Yeah, I just know I couldn't go 12,000 miles comfortably. I start getting nightmares about my engine seizing up and oil turning into sand... .

I had it eat about half a quart of oil after about 5,000 miles into the run. So not much at all.

Still driving my 180 mile/day commute. Whats nice is, at 4:00am in the morning - no one driving my new route so can get to work quite a bit faster than coming home. .

8k isn't a bad run...personally, I'd push it to closer to 10k.

Going with the XL line of oils should save you some money, changing this often...

Good wear metal run. You did the right thing to dump it when the burn rate increased. Tbn may be up 'cause you added more make up oil. If the motor is spec'd for 5-30 maybe a thinner 5-30 would work. No need to over work your little motor pushing too heavy an oil.
