Amsoil 0W-30, 20K mile OCI, 2004 Cn Vic 130K mile

It was "Signature Series" or the newer brand. I do let the oil soak into the filter and not much spills out, since I do not fill it to the top. I would think an 820S would not take more than a third of a quart, having done it a few times. The oil was also in the pan for about 6 months. I freeway commute like a SOB.

I appreciate the helpful comments, especially about the filter lifetime. I don't know where I got the 5K mile guideline. I think someone said the anti-back flow valve starts to go bad. I'll drop to one filer change per OCI.

Finally, this site is very worthwhile with good knowledgeable members who make helpful comments. I appreciate your help. I will post again in 6 months but lurk in the meantime.

buster, assuming no top-offs were done and assuming he changed the filter 3 times and using the estimate that each new filter contained 3 qt, he added <1 qt of fresh oil over the entire interval.

Thx JAG. Someone should send this to Valvoline and ask them about the 3,000 mile change interval they still push.

Buster ,Amsoil pushes up to 25 to 35,000 miles but on our boards Amsoil gets changed out at 5,000 miles "though some people go the distance" so all in all it equals out.

True and most UOA's with Amsoil past 15k look pretty bad so this is just one of the few good ones. Same with any oil taken beyond 15k miles. I still think Valvoline's statements that 3,000 mile drain intervals are best is a big joke.

Huh??? Find the recent 22K and 25K Amsoil UOA's, and repeat this statement.

Pablo, the majority of UOA's past 15k on any oil don't seem all that great IMO. Amsoil has a few, but overall, I don't think many are that exceptional is what I'm saying.

I know I have seldom been impressed with any extended oil changes UOA especialy with the bypass set-up. I mean if you can not tell the difference with that system as opposed to nothing then what is the point. Same thing for excessive filter changes. It makes it hard to really get a handle of the UOA since almost no one does this! I mean I change my oil and filter exer 6 months. I do not change the oil every 6 months and filter every three plus top up. Even when people go 9 months or 10K+ almost none of them change the filter and alot do not even bother totop off so these types of UOA make it hard to really see what is going on since new filters and new oil are being added regularly it skews the results in my opinion.

Am I right to believe this car has the Amsoil bypass dual filtration system? That would explain the low wear numbers and fool a lot of people. Let's see a run with just the EAO oil filter and see how far you make it into a run without any replacement oil shall we?

This car has no by-pass filtration. So indeed, you are incorrect.

Something smells here. It's an Amsoil product and, of course, the Amsoil salesmen are covering their butts. Why is the guy changing filters so often? I say the by-pass filter is filling to capacity and needs changed. With wear numbers that low after that many miles I say he's using a by-pass system.

With cheap store-brand dyno, it's valid enough for me. Besides, who doesn't like getting their hands greasy?

What? Do you have proof of this? He changed his filter every 5K because he wanted to.

Covering my butt??? What do you mean by that?

If there is any butt coverage needed here, it's the folks who doubt Amsoil at every turn, with zero technical data.

So let's get it straight. You, sir, are calling the OP a liar. That is NOT in the spirit of BITOG. Pretty sad.

I saw the Camaro test where YOUR oil's tbn [censored] out at 12,000 miles even with make-up oil and the mobil one was still going at 15,000 with make-up oil. You guys claim your oil is the best but from what I can see it's just the most expensive. Oh yeah, I still say that guy is using a bypass filtration system.

Well, you are wrong. Actually both oils [censored] out in that flawed test. M1 did have more make up oil and had the filter changed. Amsoil had lower wear metals.

So you are calling the OP a liar?

I'm not calling anybody a liar. I'm just forming an opinion on what I see. I am currently an Amsoil Preferred Customer. The whole thing is basically a pyramid scheme.
