I found a set of 18 x 8.5 AMG wheel that can be used on my 2000 E430 locally. The only potential problem is the width, my current OEM wheel is 7.5" and this set is 8.5". Current tire is 235/45-17, for this AMG wheel I would probably go with 235/40-18 to retain similar diameter. 8.5" is a little too wide for 235 mm tire.

From the picture the wheels look to be in very decent shape, the asking price is $400 including tires. One hubcap is missing, I can use 1 of mine or buy a new set. I'm not sure if $400 is for the set or for 1.

What do you think ?

Well that's because those are old style rims. But it would fit the car as it's an old car. $400 for the whole set sounds right for a set of rims and tires of that vintage. There are people selling new style sets of rims in the $600-$800 range. The real question is how long do you intend to keep the car? If it's just a couple of years, I wouldn't even bother with rims, you never recoup the price on resale.

This is the old AMG style, it fits and looks very well on older MB sedan, it may not looks good on newer cars.

I was thinking about this AMG wheel since I bought my car 15 years ago, it was too expensive about $600 each, so the set with tire can be $3000 or more.

A slight problem, just bought new set of tire 6 months ago. If I buy this set of wheel then I need to change wheels every 6 months. Old wheel/tire for winter and AMG wheel/tire for summer.

The problem is I don't know how long we will keep the car, may be 3-5 years may be 8-10 years. If the cost of repair doesn't go up too high in the future I may keep it until I can't afford to maintain it.

I think theyll look good on your car. BUT 8.5" is 215mm so a 235 will look like a balloon.

I have ran 225 tires on 8 1/2" rims. Made a big difference in steering feel. Much more responsive.
Handling was much better.
This was on a 1/2 ton pickup and 70 aspect ratio tires.

I just look at specs of Michelin Pilot Super Sport 235/40-18 on Tirerack, Rim Width Range: 8-9.5", Measured Rim Width: 8.5".

So these AMG wheels are perfect for 235/40-18 tires. I will go there to take a look at the wheels, if they are in reasonable condition I will take it.

PS The width of the wheel is difference for the same tire width but different aspect ratio. For 235/45-18 Rim Width Range: 7.4-9.0", Measured Rim Width: 8.0".

These wheels don't look good on newer Benz, and wheels of newer Benz's don't look good on W210 cars either. Somehow these AMG wheels matches W210 or W124 very well.

I can't remember if the rims were staggered. I do however remember that the size up front were 235/40/18 and the rear were of the 275 variety...

Not really. I have 245/40/18 wheels on my car which was the stock size on the sport E350. They are the stock 8.5 rims.

As for your situation, it sounds complicated so I wouldn't bother. I remember wanting a new set of alloy wheels on a previous car that only had hubcaps, never got around to it and in retrospect I'm glad I didn't spend the $500-$1000 on the rims. I hadn't really planned to get rid of it, just that in a span of a couple of months, many problems cropped up and it was just time to get rid of it.
