Am I correct in recalling typical car batts around 45-50AH (excluding deep cycle, marine, etc)? That suggests a 15-20A alt, ??? I think you want the 25-40% charge rate *in addition to* vehicle loads (20amp daytime, 35amp night, 50amps with wipers, defrost, etc...)
And actually, the reverse *can* be true for daily driving. A larger capacity alt can actually waste less hp, given it's the same case/structure/design: A larger capacity alt typically has thicker copper in the windings. Provided the electrical load remains the same, the larger alt will not lose *as much* energy in resistance while loaded, yielding more efficient operation. Also, some cars will raise idle speed if the voltage is low to boost alt output (Chrysler/Dodge did this until ~2001 when the upsized alts in the minivans, per allpar artciles) which uses more fuel.
Really 90A is a pretty good size. 60-ish was a standard for a while. I don't think an extra 20amps is going to improve your daily drive. Apply the extra $ to the one with lifetime warranty b/c in my experience a lot of the remans last a year or so. :-(
