The 25288 number is used after whatever prefix letters your bro's Purolater had.

There are likely many others out there.
Don't admit to buying any oil filter without first screening it through the BITOG filter popularity tool.
So it seems the STP25 is 3.8" wide with 2.4-2.7" gasket. You can also use the narrower stp/ph3675 that has the same thread and gasket but has a bit more length just narrower at 3" and you could step down even further and get the even more common 3506 which is shorter than the narrowed 3675 but should still screw on anyway.
The PF58 used to be the smaller (narrower) filter we used on BOPC engines when I worked at GM. When I had my cars with Oldsmobile V8s could used PF24s or PF58s, Cadillacs should be the same. I used to run the PF24s because they were significantly larger. The PF59 has an antidrain back but it looks like it may have been superceded by the PF61 now.
Just cross reference the AC Delco part numbers to find an equivalent. Or use Rock Auto and search for 68 Cadillac 472. Or search 1989 Cadillac Brougham with a 307 and it will show more options.
