Just heard on the radio about the CHPs are forcing up for holiday travelers. Either they got some money for this, or will need a quota to be sure it pays off.

I run a V1 (Valentine One) for the open roads (it's 2 or so hours a work day, 90% highway), and if I have a bit of in town running around, then it's my Escort 9500ix.
My youngest got a ticket last year, one save from a RD would have paid for itself. And yes of course dad pays it.

I think it's impossible to knock into a 21 yo college kid to use whatever RD I'm not using. It was easy to get him to use a GPS, so he can be gone for long stretches and always find his way back home when the cash gets low.

He drove for over an hour today out of town for paintball -it's raining, windy, cold.... he says nobody was there. We tried to tell him about the stormy weather.

Just ranting off a little I guess......

Not only CHP are going to give out more tickets, local PD's are going out in force to enrich the cities coffers. To avoid ticket, use turn signal when change lane or change direction, make a complete stop at stop signs or before make a right turn on red, obey speed limit laws both on highway and on surface streets .

Be Safe !!!

Discouraging, but not as discouraging as already hearing "Do they know it is Christmas?"

CSP is targeting certain areas. I was pulled over 3 times two years around x-mas.....for driving too slow.

Those photo radar machines out west are now writing automated tickets for vehicles that do not come to a complete stop before a legal right turn on red. Be careful out there guys, this is shady!

I saw on TV the other day that a guy got a ticket from FHP because he flashed his high beams to warn other cars in the opposite direction about the speed trap down the road. Another cop about a mile away saw what he did and pulled him over.

With so many cities in the red, they are using their law enforcement to bring in revenue. Some cops say they don't have a quota, but an 'enforcement goal' they need to make per week/month.

Well, I've already seen some "questionable" pull overs around here....

I had a neighbor get a ticket for slamming on his brakes....

I've had three tickets for speeding, and only one of them was I actually speeding (2AM in the morning, and truckies were trying to push us off the road).

The other two were, coincidentally, 118km/hr, both times, I was NOT doing in excess of the speed limit.

First, I was picked from the middle of a line of traffic, in direct contravention of the radar speed detection act. Stated my case in a letter, and was told "there were two officers in the car with identical stories, and it's not the same as yours. Bring evidence (what ? how ?) to court, and plead your case, or pay the fine.

Second was when my 4Runner was dragging up a hill, and some wipe was driving towards me with all lights blazing, high beam AND driving lights. Patience wore thin, and I gave them a taste of mine...disco lights, and magically booked for 118km/hr going up a hill. Asked them to reset the unit in front of me, and they got very agro.

Both were holidays

The latter, I told the people I work with, and on that stretch of road, people reported cops tailgating with lights ablaze to push people over the limit, or the same story as mine.

One guy got booked for 118km/hr...when he was doing 160.

When it's quota season, doesn't matter how in the right you are...they'll get their quota.

I was told last night that they don't have a quota anymore, they have a enforcement goal.... What!!!

The tolerance levels tighten up for the holidays, not only for state, but county & city in most areas. When it comes to the traveling crunch for the holiday, those going too slow can be nailed for going to slow - impeding traffic - while at the same note, going over the PSL tolerance may be tighter too. So there is a tighter safety window for those areas tightening up on tolerance.

It just always seem from this time till after new years, I usually hear a friend or co worker mention about the ticket they got. My youngest was included in the group last year for this time frame.

For those that don't run a radar detector, nothing beats situational awareness & common sense.
Although a have a couple radar detectors, I'm not a ticket prone speeder, I'm a gadget junkie in some ways. But the detector had taught me some of their tactics out on the road. I know some run jammers, myself I don't. Some take this stuff so seriously.

Around here there is a law against using a "handheld" phone while driving. I see so many people driving around, yakking away with the phone plastered to their ear, paying attention to nothing. Don't even get me started on the texting. If the cops would enforce those laws they might actually improve safety on the roads while filling the coffers.

I was at a semianr this past Friday, where most of those present were cops ( okay, everyone except for me).
I learned that some police departments rate their personnel based upon a point system, with various point levels given for various activities.
That sounds a lot like a quota system to me.

^^^^
Yeah, the more $$$$ you bring into your Police Dept, the sooner you get promoted.

Heard a little more today - they are stepping up and will reach maximum enforcement on Wednesday, and will continue to 11:59 on Sunday - what!!!! where do they get this 11:59 stuff???
They also added that regards to some poll, the fear of aggressive speeding drivers now exceed the cell phone users for once.
They will remain on the lookout for aggressive driving, speeding, impeding, cell users, DUI's and seat belt usage. Nothing new...
