Just purchased this for the Ranger in my signature. Mentioned before that I picked up this truck as a one owner low mileage truck in November, 2008. Only problem was that the previous owner was Joe Camel and he commuted in it daily with his buddy Marlboro Man. The radio in this thing (Ford AM/FM/CD) was caked with residue and even the presets were sticking. I had gotten to the point that I wanted to replace it.
I normally buy Kenwood but had been looking at this unit, as well as a Kenwood equivalent. I was looking for HD Radio, as well as a front mounted USB, so that I could use my I-Pod with it. Both were in the $180-200 range and I decided that it wasn't high on my priority list. Last week, I get a Crutchfield ad in the mail out of the blue (never have bought anything from them) and they had this unit for $99., with the installation materials for $15. That was enough to motivate a decision and I ordered it.
Got it UPS on Tuesday, and installed it Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Until I had this, I didn't realize how bad the sound was with my previous unit. Even using the same speakers, it sounds 100x better. At first, I thought that this had the most user unfriendly interface that I had ever seen before in my life and the manual wasn't helpful in the least. After about two days with it, I can see that it really isn't unfriendly and realize that part of the problem is with small buttons operated by a middle aged guy with big fingers and bifocals.
It looks good, sounds good and the price was good. My wife was upset not because I bought it for myself, but because she was going to get me a stereo for the truck for Christmas. After I explained the sale, she calmed down. Only downside was that I ended up having to buy an installation kit locally because the one Crutchfield sent arrived broken. Now for the hassle of sending it back.....
