Air pressure for storing tires

I am storing a set of alloy wheels and tires this winter in my basement and was wondering what the ideal pressure would be to keep them at? Since they will be off the car it seems like lowering the pressure would be the best.

Any opinions?

I've always took them off and stored them for the winter at whichever pressure they had before removal.

What type of tires, normal street or something performance based? For race tires (probably overkill for street tires) I take them down below 10 psi, put them in 55 gal black trash bags, and store them in a heated area. The reason for lowering the pressure is to reduce the stresses in the tire during storage and any heating or cooling cycles.

We have winter and summer sets on rims for both cars. I always reduce the pressure to 5 PSI and store them on their sides with four red bricks between the rubber and the garage floor to let air circulate into the stack of four tires. If you think about it, it does not take many square inches of surface at 5 pounds per square inch, to support the weight of the tires above. I always thought it was easy on the belts in the tire to be at low pressure when the tire was not being used.

Continental Tire recommends 15 psi. And if you stack them, rotate the stack once a month. See their 2016 Technical Databook for more details:

Deferring to that conti brochure (great reading) I like keeping my tires well inflated so "junk" doesn't wind up down in the bead surfaces. I've had snow tires grow bead leaks over summer storage.

I'd even suggest "changing the air" on a crisp cool day when the absolute humidity is low to prevent corrosion.

As mentioned it is good to deflate them a decent amount. What kinda tires are they? I would assume the proper PSI would be listed on the companies' website similar the comment about Continental.

When I was switching between snow and summer tires I would have them taken completely off the rim and stored in tire bags. No PSI required

I usually store at whatever psi I took them off at, been doing it for 20 years with no issues yet.

They go in the basement stacked on top of each other with round sheets of corrugated cardboard between them. and a tarp over them(or garbage bags).

If being lazy and no major winter storms.. I will store the all-seasons in the breezeway for 3months.

Instead of the basement.

For example one year winter tires went on mid november. I stored in basement the all-seasons.
next year winter tires went on dec 20th.. stored in the breezeway.

I usually have them off by end of march.

Wow. Other than the tarp (which I do not bother with), this is EXACTLY what I do, and have done for decades. And I thought I was the only one who was that persnickety with his tires.
