Air filter on a 07 Focus

This sounds like a much better, modern version of the Chevrolet Vega air filter unit - you didn't replace the filter, you replaced the entire air cleaner unit.

With the average 'life' of a Vega engine being 30-50k, I wonder how many were never replaced?

What did you do with the small hose when you installed the Air Filter Monitor Gauge in its place in the S2000 ?

Mine is a '06 and it had nothing in that boss on the intake tube.
So that is why I put it there, looks like it was put there by the factory don't you think?

I looked under my hood again and there is a hose about 3/4" diameter coming out of the nipple and goes down under the coolant reservoir to somewhere.

Yours is like factory installed.

Poach away! Most of my good ideas I've stolen from others..

It works out great in that location. The big thing is that I wanted to be able to bend the air box out of the way to access the CVT dipstick and fill plug, and the gauge doesn't get in the way in that location. I just undo the one 10MM bolt, disconnect the MAF and pull the whole air box up without opening it. That way the air box remains undisturbed.

You can also check out the underside of the air filter while lifting up the air box, which is nice (just pull off the little inlet tube. The restriction gauge won't tell you if mice are eating the filter, so it's nice to be able to check out the filter.

FWIW, the restriction gauge has barely moved after measuring the initial restriction. I imagine I'll probably get 100K out of the air filter at this rate. It looks pretty dirty from the underside, but I'm gonna go with the gauge. The current filter has about 45K on it.
