I have one of those &#$@&% air filters that are supposed to be 100K filter on the Focus. I have recently been thinking about changing it but Ford want's an arm,leg hand,foot neck and head for one of those things.$420!!! So I was wondering if Amsoil has a better idea than Ford for a replacement. Mine has the restriction gauge on the filter housing and appears fine, and there is no loss of MPG, and the air intake is clean so this contraption must still be working, but one of these days I will have to replace it. I checked with Ford and I was told they have never had one go bad. The only replacements they have seen have been on wrecks. Paublo, where are you?

I never heard of that. Well at least there is comfort in knowing that a plugged filter IMPROVES fuel mileage on cars with MAF sensors.
Let the filter restriction gauge do its job and tell you when you need to change it. Why through away money on a filter if its not plugged up and costing you gas mileage. By the time you need to change it somebody(K&N, Wix, Fram) will have made one for your car.

Consider yourself lucky. This is a much better design IMO.Take a look at the used oil analysis from cars with this air filter. Fact is, they're much better at filtering, and it should last the life of the car, or 250k. There's nothing to gain from changing it
If youve seen the filter from a 6.0L PowderSmoke, its the exact same filter tech just smaller and in a sealed box. Its called PowerCore by Donaldson.
All the is under the hood that is visible is a resonator with a restriction gauge and the MAF. The filter itself is in the driver front corner, behind the bumper.

After reading the paper, I'm totally a believer that this works better. A friend of mine has 220K on his Focus and he's reading 1.2 kph of restriction. BTW, that's less restriction than most paper filters and intake systems when they're new. So all of the nonsensical claims that it's so expensive to replace are just that: nonsense. He does a ton of driving of gravel roads in Idaho, and at this point there's no question the filter will outlast the car. In the published paper, the filters are reaching at most 3.75 kPa of restriction in 250K miles.
I think it never took off because it simply costs the manufacturers too much, and this filtering system is way over-designed for the average life cycle of a passenger car. There's no question in my mind though that this is a better system.

Thanks, this is very incourageing to hear. How do I read the restriction on the gauge? According to what I see on the gauge it still looks good. Fully in the green. Later this morning I will take a pic and post.

As of now the yellow plundger hasn't moved since I bought the car with 20K on it. Apparently these gauges can be purchased. Where would I get one for the Fusion? Thanks for the info and peace of mind that I won't be changing this for some time to come. One other thing. I guess the engine must be running to check the gauge?
