Air Filter oil on a Paper Air Filter?

I noticed that OEM Honda Air Filters have a light coat of oil on one side of the Filter. Whenever I order a aftermarket Air Filter, in this case Beck Arnley, the filters are identical but do not have the light coat of oil.

I was thinking about going over to my local Malcom X motorcycle shop and picking up some Air Filter oil and spray a coat on the proper side of the filter. What do you think?

If the OEM Honda has something applied to it then it is made for it from them,,If any other,,Fram Napa Beck Arnley,Etc are oil less I wouldn't add oil to them cause it would restrict the airflow and/or ruin the filter

I didn't know Malcom X was into motorcycles. I wonder if he rode with Malcom Smith?

I did not think of that, the oil may not be compatible with the media. Thanks.

Back in the day, ACDelco sold both dry and oil-wetted filters. My '65 Chevy called for part # A86CW. The W indicating wet. Most Delco part #'s ended in C only. I don't know the reason for the difference. Seems like Buick and Chevy used more of the wet filters. The engineers must have had reasons for specing a certain filter for each application. Anybody out there old enough to know anything about this?
