I'm replacing the air filter in my Stihl 94R weedeater. The outer portion of the filter is foam. Do I add a touch of oil onto the foam?
Or just put it on dry?

You will get different opinions, what does your Owner's Manual say?
I am guessing Dry!

It doesn’t say. It just says to not wash. Replace. Most of the time I thought you always oiled foam filters. But this filter is a foam and felt combo.

Do not oil the foam air prefilter on any Stihl OPE. It will make a mess and clog up quickly due to the dusty environments that lawn equipment is typically used in.

The foam is attached to a felt backing. I’m guessing I should leave the foam portion dry. If

Without the oil film, the foam is nothing more than a rock catcher.

I own several 2-cycle Stihl lawn maintenance tools. On the Stihl OPE, the sponge foam is a pre-filter designed to function only as a "rock catcher". Downstream of the foam, there is a fine particulate filter made of either thick felt or a pleated synthetic media much like an automotive air filter.
