Gotcha. ETCG's logic is sound; if the valve cover gasket has failed, the others probably have too (or will in the very near future).

The Purolator PureOne filters have been having quite a few issues with media ruptures. The Fram Ultra is 99.5% efficient at 20 microns and 80 % @5 microns.

The Fram air filters aren't commonly rated but they are typically top quality.

901Memphis - thanks for your feedback, i will consider Fram Ultra next time. But, during my research for several days studying oil filter comparison articles, i noticed that Fram ULTRA was not mentioned anywhere. This could be because the reviews were several years old and Fram ULTRA was not in production at that time. Check out this article.

That data was produced by old BITOG member "river_rat". There are lots of old threads about his research and that website is his summary.

Yes, the Fram Ultra hasn't been around too long, but again river_rat might not have went for full synthetic filters in his comparison.

99.5 @20 microns is horribly inefficient. I wouldn't use that filter if you paid me!!

Mann air filters are 99.9 @ 2-3 microns - far superior filtration and far superior engine protection.

I believe he's talking about the oil filters.

Efficiency of an air filter is that high ? I didn't know that.

My E430 always has Mann air filter and it is usually lower cost than other German filters on Amazon and Rockauto.

I got the numbers off this very site! I googled 'Mann air filter efficiency' and one of the first links was to a thread on here where a user had spoken to the tech. Department at Mann and shared all the details he got from the guy on the phone
