Air filter change - with pics!

I just passed the 21k km mark. Manual says change air filter every 24k km. I figured I'd do it early, like I do with all other scheduled maintenance.

Went with a Fram for $11. The Fram had a good seal, so I'm happy with it. The OEM was really well built, but had less pleats and no metal screen on the intake side like the Fram which was half the price of a dealer OEM replacement.

Wow the OEM looks very clean, and yes looks better built I'll bet it doesn't need the screen, maybe Fram expects media collapse.

Cant go wrong with a decent aftermarket, I'm sure the Fram will do just fine.

I went with a Napa Gold for $17 instead of the $26 OEM, OEM is good but dam they want a lot for it.

I recently changed my purolator air filter and installed a new Pureone filter, which is paper/oiled. The Pureone filter is one of the best filters you can buy as far as dirt capacity, and extremely small particle filtering. However I had the get rid of the Pureone after a few thousand miles because my mileage had taken a serious dump, and I blame it on the restrictive filter. I put an AFE Pro Dry S drop in filter, mileage returned to normal, plus more power. The AFE is washable and doesn't use oil. LOVE it. It just drops in place, not a "kit".

You couldn't find an A/C Delco equivalent? You can see thru the fram which isn't a good thing.

I was wondering what style of filters that those of you experiencing the mpg drop were using panel or conical filter. I have a 97 lincoln continental with a pureone conical. It is starting to get dirty and is about in need of replacement. After reading on here about the pureone im not sure whether to get another p1, fram tg or oem.

The only way to tell what the real resistance is to install a $20 measuring device like come on a lot of off-road stuff. I put one on my Grand Cherokee, Hi-Lux pickup and 4Runner. It turns from green to orange when there is 25" water column of resistance. You change the filter and push the reset button. Color doesn't tell you much.

With this device, you might go 50,000 or more without changing filters
