I'm not sure I'd agree with you. What are the downsides? A little less power at wide open throttle. In exchange for potentially more efficient filtration from a loaded filter. I'll take that trade--if it's even a trade at all. Have you ever seen the photos from the Oak Ridge lab testing on restricted filters? They were blocking the filter with shop towels! Without a restriction gauge, there's no real way to know--but at worst there's a little loss of power at WOT. Cars have MAF sensors, so air restriction doesn't really mean much.

So, if it wasn't torn and putting dirt into the intake, it looks optimal to me! That also looks like a burly filter, so for his conditions I think the change interval was fine. In the words of Blackstone, "looks good, next time try 150K"...

I hope not, Like I said the post-filter intake tract was clean. While flow may have been compromised with this long run filter, I do not think it made much impact on a car that rarely see 4k+ RPMs.

What you don't understand is that after the filter is clogged, it lets dirt into the engine.


On a Mustang I worked on, the filter was plugged and there was a lot of sand and dirt in the intake tract.

How so ??

If the media is not torn or compromised in any way, how can sand pass through ?
