I have an older Craftsman air compressor that I'm doing some long neglected maintenance on. It has two small foam air filters held down by a clip. I gently washed them. Do I install them dry or lightly oil them for better filtering? I don't have the original owner's manual.

Also, what brand/weight of compressor oil do you guys recommend? I see a lot of good reviews on Amsoil compressor lube using search tool. Thoughts?

Thx in advance for any help,
Joe

I have been using the Amsoil SAE 20 wt compressor oil for 16 years with very good results. Never changes color throughout it's use.

Have seen times foam is oiled on equipment, and and other times dry. Sorry but if you don't get a good answer you could try to lightly oil it.

thx oilboy

Sticker on compressor lists 20W for winter 30W summer. Probably go with Amsoil 20W year round. I just don't see how the small intake sponge filters do much filtering dry. May put a few drops of oil on them and see what happens.
thx for the reply
Joe
