I've heard of it and seen it before. (rarely) It generally is sold in bulk. AGIP probably offered the dealership a better price than Castrol.

AGIP is a big oil company in Italy. It is all over Italy and can also be found in other European countries. I've never seen it sold in the USA.

If you are going to pay a low price for the non-synthetic AGIP in bulk, I guess its ok, however if the price is high, you better insist that they use bottles (so you can see that it is in fact AGIP) or else, just bring your own Full Synthetic for them to use.

Lastly, there is nothing special about AGIP (just as there is nothing special about TOTAL and Elf, from France) non-synthetic oils. If they are synthetic, and you see the bottles that say full synthetic, then those are great oils.

Interesting Story about AGIP. Way back in 1959 (hey, I'm old), I stayed at an AGIP Motel in Italy. (AGIP also runs Motels). It cost me $2.00 a night at a time that most American motels would cost $4.00 or $5.00 a night. In 1989, only 30 years later, my wife and I were driving through Italy, very late at night. Saw a big sign for AGIP Motel, near Firenza (Florence), so ok, lets get a room. Went in and asked how much for one night. The guy quoted me something like 185,000 lira which I calculated to be about $128.00 at the time. In the US, in 1989, the price for a motel room was around $35.00 a night. How times change! Needless to say, I told him where he could stick his 185k lira, and we found other accomodations. Have not checked AGIP Motels lately, however at that rate, and with the decline of the US Dollar vs the Euro, they probably cost about $400.00 a night.

AGIP has a colorful history. So colorful that it made for a documentary shown on The History Channel. Interesting alliances and whatnots (cough-cough

).

I've bought Agip PC synthetic 5w-40. Performed identical to D1 in consumption in my 2.5 jeep engine. Never did a used oil analysis on it. I still have 6 quarts of it ...and still have an account with them. Agip USA is in Cabot, PA. One of the local garages carries Agip.

American Agip

Their 5W-50 oil is PAO based the PC 5W-40 from what I remember is grIII. Used to use their 4-SYNT 10W-40 synthetic blend didn't notice anything good or bad; however two of my VeeDub fanatic buddies said the 5W-50 did really well in their cars it did seem to get consumed and their mileage did not suffer.

Local Wawa quick mark now carries Agip dino, like $3.79/q. Whatever, better than the Warren sold at the same price at the competitor, Turkey Hill.

The discondinued Agip catalyst 10W40 was one of the best oils that i had tried in my car . Lots of power and fuel economy .
I wasn't able to find a good deal until recently when i bought a case of agip sint 2000 10W40. It's been a week since i poured it in and i am certain it will perform well.
