As a auto service tech, I put drain plugs in all my own vehicle transmissions. With pan off drill hole in suitable location, take to reputable welding shop and have threaded steel tab welded INSIDE pan. Then when you screw plug in it seals against pan itself. Doesn't matter if tab inside pan is welded leak proof if plug gasket is sealed against pan itself. You can even have tab threaded to use exact same plug as engine oilpan!
