Hey guys my moms 09 focus needs the top mount again second one already. Does any one have a good recommendations for the top mount? Maybe a brand that will last longer than the Junk oem part.

Perhaps one of the other engine motor mounts is broken (misdiagnosed), creating extra stress and causing multiple failures of the upper mount.

No they are all good the top mount is a liquid filled mount and they don't last I used to be able to pretty much up sell every focus that came in the shop with a motor mount but it was always a ford replacement part and I wonder if the aftermarket has a better option

Can you get a polyurethane mount for it?

Is this issue a like "gauranteed failure" for a focus? I'm getting serious with a well maintained 2007 Focus for sale by a local couple. Is it a $1500 fix at a shop? Is there a tell-tale visual predictor or certain little test at idle I can do to check it's condition?

It's a Focus thing, they ALL do it. Motor mounts are guaranteed to fail prematurely. They get "buzzy" when driving and at idle the steering wheel shakes and vibrates.

Fortunately they're a piece of cake to replace.

It is a guaranteed failure yes. Some times when they fail they'll leave a littl trail of of the fluid they leak but more often than not there's no signs other than idle vibrations. It's not hard to fix 20 minute job tops. We used to charge around 45 dollars to do them I believe.

You would have noticed shaking at idle if it was really bad. They're quite simple to replace.

I replaced the top mount on my 07 Focus and bought it at O'Reilly's a little over a year ago. OK so far, and does have a lifetime warranty.

Pretty much this ^^

In researching this well-known issue all I've read is that the Ford parts are the only worthwhile replacement. I can't speak from experience as I haven't replaced mine yet, though it needs it.

Yes. I put a polyurethane dogbone (rear lower mount) in mine. But the polyurethane engine mount will have significant vibrations. That's the design of them ... however, it is not from the mount being broken.

I had mine replaced under warranty. I suspect, even at dealer rates, it would be like $50 in labor. The dealer had mine changed - literally - in under 20 minutes.

It does help dampen vibrations from the engine. Unlike a lot of 4 cylinder cars that use a traditional mount, you really can not feel or hear the engine at idle or lower RPMs where 4 cylinders vibrate.

It really does work better, IMO ... when it works.

There are a bunch of different part numbers depending on the year, engine, and transmission. For a while, 00-03, the VINs didn't tell us much about the cars and it was like pulling teeth getting info from customers on the right mount needed.

I asked the previous/original owner of my Focus when and with what he'd replaced the failed motor mount with. He told me that it had been a little over a year ago and that he'd used an aftermarket mount. Sure enough my car is very buzzy and rattly most of the time at idle, especially on a cold startup.

I used a 1/2" hole saw, brake cleaer, and a $12 tube of 3M polyurethane window adehsive from napa to "fix" my liquid filled motor mount. I have been running these since 09/24/14, they are still solid and don't shake too much.

Google "3M window weld", and "poly fill motor mount"
