Just noticed that my left cooling fan doesn't run.. this one is the A/C Fan. Wierd thing is that the right fan(cools the engine) is working fine but.... it also acts as a A/C fan. I started my engine cold and turned on my A/C and the Right one was spinning .. the left one never moved. thank goodness i still get cold air while at a stop sign.

What I think it might had happened is that when I first bought the car, i helped a person on the side of the road who needed a jump start. I was trying to find my flashlight and he had alright got the battery cables out... just as i walked towards him he put the Connectors on the wrong terminals. the battery sparked like crazy, my engine studdered a bit, the head lights went dim and there was a big squeaking sound.. like a whole bunch of Mice. so maybe that overloaded and cooked the motor possible? maybe a wire is melted? I'm not good with electrical stuff.. help!!

Love,

The short you described when jumping another car could possibly have fried your fan's relay. I'd check it first before buying another fan. If your car is like mine (a '97 Maxima), each fan will have its own relay.
I also had my secondary fan go out on mine. My primary worked fine. According to a Nissan tech, the primary was sufficient to prevent overheating in most cases. It also has two speeds controlled by the computer, whereas my secondary only has one (high). Both of mine use the same model of motor, but have a different number of blades. When I purchased the new motor ($135 at the dealership!!), I had to use the blades from the old motor. Depending on your make of car, you may be able to find a cheaper one at an auto store. Unfortunately for me, some Nissan parts aren't very readily available at auto stores, and I couldn't find a cooling fan anywhere but the dealership. Luckily it is easy to replace; just a couple of small screws and an electrical plug.
You're lucky you still have cold air when stopped. At redlights, it was if my AC wasn't even engaged. At highway speeds, the AC worked fine. I had to drive that way for a month in Louisiana's summer heat of 100 F or so. And this was while wearing a navy blue uniform and Second Chance vest.

One other thing. I have noticed on my 2 Maximas that my secondary fan is directly infront of my exhaust manifold. On my '97, I have an aluminum heatshield between the exhaust and the secondary fan motor. There isn't one behind my primary (driver's side) fan, which isn't really near the exhaust. On my '96 (which had the secondary fan go out), there was no heatshield for either fan. Could be what made it go out. Just some food for thought if you bought the car used someone may have removed the heatshield for some reason (as was in my case).

Anyways, hope this helps.

OK.. just read my Chiltons manual. Looks like I need a new motor. I checked the fuses and the relay.. they didn't look burnt. I'm going to the Junk Yard tommarow and try to find me a fan. Thank god its not the Cooling fan. But hey, thanks for you help.
