Advice on Lucas UCL.

Hi Guys.

New to this board, great info from all of you.
Just got few 5.25 oz. Lucas Upper cylinder lubricant from the local Canadian Tire Store.
Before I pour in to my gas tank, need some suggestions or advice from you guys. Anybody tried this product before and how was it?
I was using STP fuel injector cleaner every oil change, and how is Lucas UCL compare to STP stuff.

Its hit/miss... In my chevy truck and BMW, I felt a difference, in my gf's acura and father's toyota, nothing...

I still have some which I add at a rate similar to fuel power, 1oz per 5 gals of gas.

Some say that it can cause increased wear of bearings, etc., but I think at low dosing, all should be well.

I've used it for a while and really like the results. I don't care for the "fuel injector cleaners" such as STP or some of the cheap ones. However Lucas seems to be in a different category of cleaners/lubricators. I have NOT done a used oil analysis since I've been using Lucas, so it will be interesting to see if it impacts the numbers since the last one.

How does Lucas UCL increase bearing wear? What would be considered a dose low enough to not increase bearing wear? Do the negatives from the use of Lucas UCL outweigh the benefits?

Lucas UCL can't cause bearing wear. It's added to the fuel, not the oil. Use 3 ounces per 10 gallons of gas. Works as advertised.

well there has been mention of higher wear metals rates, hypothesized to be due to the adding of UCL. I believe Terry mentioned it.

I think that maybe the UCL does not fully combust, and some might condense during the compression stroke, and find its way into the lubrication system?

Yup, two things.

One - go buy the 1L bottle from Car Quest. WAY!! cheaper.

I use 1.5-2 oz per 10gal every other tank (using a lower grade of gas - 89 vs 92) and notice a slight improvement in fuel mileage when used. I've yet to see any bad effects.
My GF uses it as well, and now that she's run out, she has been noticing a drop in MPG.

The stuff works! Just buy it in larger quantities. Cdn Tires sells the 5.25oz (155ml) bottle for about $6. I buy the 1L bottle at Carquest and pay $12. You do the math!

last year in my BMW. I don't really notice
any difference and I never keep track on
mileage. I use it for it's lubricating
properties so if it keeps the fuel system
clean then, it's a bonus.
Luvs2drive is right. Buy the 32 oz. bottle
and use the small bottle to add the proper
amount to your gas. I usually put a little
less (3 to 4 oz) per tank.

I have just started using it in my wife's car with good results. It had a ruff idle untill I started using Lucas UCL.

The Lucas burns very well .

Years back after tearing down my L82 engine I could see the fresh flame travel from use of for one week .

One winter I ran a hotter plug and 3 ounces per ten gallons , next winter ran 2 ounces per ten .

Now I just use it during the warmer months when towing or long trips at speed and I've never seen it affect my oil analysis's .

I've used both. Together with it's 'oil-like' consistency and the fact that I didn't notice a difference with the Lucas UCL, I stopped using it.

I then switched to using STP gas tmt/fuel inj. cleaner at alternating intervals which is overkill IMO. I'm back to using the STP Super conc. f.s. cleaner at every oil change. Definately can tell a difference and it seems to keep the engine running well for this interval.

Lucas UCL has so far been a cure for a ruff idle in my wife's car. I keep you informed of any change.

i really love lucas. I buy it for 19.95 in the gallon from napa. Most dont have it--- they can order it and have it the next day.

I fill up the quart container to add to gas tank. ALways improves my MPG 1-3 every tank, cured a pinging problem rather nicely in my old 4.9 caddy. I love the stuff! For a dirty car, i usually just add a pretty large shock dose for a few tanks until I feel its clean. Then Just 3-4 oz maintenance dose every tank.
