My driveway is 4 years old and the cracks in the expantion joints are pretty wide and water is getting in them and under the concrete. Some of the "squares/sections" are starting rise and sink in some areas along the cracks. I bought some Dap 3.0 self leveling concrete caulk and backer foam/rod. to seal up the cracks. Is there any thing else I need to do or get before I seal up these cracks? I cleaned out the dirt and crud from the cracks using a pressure washer and they are nice and clean now. Someone told me to pack them with sand and then caulk them. I can't see how this would help since the sand get under the slab. Shoud I skip the sand idea and just use the backer rod? I just need to keep water out. Many thanks!

Skip the DAP. Go to a decent building supply shop and buy some Sikaflex or Sonneborn NP1 polyurethane sealant
IF u don't want to go to a bldg supply store, Home Depot should carry PL brand polyurethane variant in the same section where the chaulk is.

I've used concrete caulk in the past and have had good results with it. The main thing is to have a good backer. Caulk is best when used less than quarter of an inch. There is some poly stuff you can buy to recoat your existing driveway but it gets slick and I don't know how it will hold up to hail damage.
