I currently have a huge idea that I'm working on, but it's taking a while....in the mean time I'd like to sharpen my sales skills by becoming a car salesman at a Lexus dealership....can anybody in the business, used to be the business or know alot about the business give me some advice?

I don't like to feel like I'm being shady or that I'm screwing people...so I'm not sure if this is the right sales position for me.

Thoughts.....

This would fit your bill if it would be a filler until you can do something else. I t appears that it is an extremely high pressure job whereas in most fields your performance is measured annually but in car sales it is measured daily. Big dough possible but with economy tanking expect lots of droughts. I would lean more towards a Toyota or Honda dealer if thats possible as Boomers and X Gens HAVE REMORTGAGED AND RE-FIED up to their eyeballs and have only recently discovered that they need to save for retirement. I think the sales of high $ items like the Lexus will be curtailed in favor of lesser brands? Check out the "KING of CARS" on A & E for an insight to this field. If you don't sell its out the door and they fill your vacant slot with the lot boy.

Forget the source. Several years ago I read an article written by a sales manager.

He told of how they constantly hired new salespeople under the rationale that the newbie may have a relative, a friend, anyone who is in the market for a car/truck and who buys from the new salesperson due to the relationship with that salesperson.

Once that source is tapped out the newbie usually departs as the income stagnates or dips to zero.

Then a new newbie is brought aboard and the process repeats itself.

There's a certain amount of logic in that scenario.
