Ads are out of hand on my computer.

I'm running Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge. Recently ads have been slowing my computer, even here on bitog. Blue spinning wheel appears often. Latest is when I go to a page, after some delay the page will scroll down by itself, I assume to get to the ad or ads. What a pain! I have and use both WebRoot Secure Anywhere and Malwarebytes subscribed on this computer.

I see there is Adblock Plus for Edge linked below.

https://adblockplus.org/en/edge

My questions.

1) Is it safe to download from the linked site?

2) Will it help with the situation I described?

3) Without switching browsers is there a better solution?

That's for windows insider builds. Edge will have support for extensions like LastPass and ad blockers next month. It's about time too.

So you're saying I'm stuck for now if I want to stay with Edge?

If true, thanks Microsoft.

Weird though, this is a relatively recent issue with the computer and I've been using Edge for awhile, since Windows 10 download.

In researching this a bit, it mentioned something about extensions in the drop down menu where an adblock might be found, but I checked and I have no choice for that in the menu.

If it was for Firefox which I have on my old laptop, I'd likely download it. A little leery of downloading for Edge if it wouldn't be helpful at this point.

Edit. Not my intent to single out bitog, just that I'm here often and have noticed it, especially the 'auto scroll' to ad today. Why I posted this thread. I have noticed it on other sites too.

Cleared cache and cookies too, didn't help.

Jebus, download a Firefox variant (Palemoon, Firefox, Waterfox etc.), get ublock origin, and enjoy the fastest, most seamless adfree browsing experience possible.

I can't believe people don't use browsers with an adblock variant, specifically ublock origin. It blocks almost everything and makes pages load 10 times faster.

Absolutely!

This has been discussed many times here. Why even bother with Edge? UO prevents all that trash from loading and mucking up my screen. Search is your friend.

My apologies to those who had to read this thread if it was a redundant question. Never seen any of those on this site before.

My thanks to those who attempted to answer the questions within the parameters I set up.

Mods feel free to delete this thread at any point as I wouldn't want it to waste any bandwidth.

IE is buried somewhere in Win 10. I removed Edge from the taskbar and put IE on it. I can use ABP ad blocker and CC cleaner on it. Only problem is that every time I go to a link or web page it ask me if I want to use Edge or IE. You can't remove Edge. They are shoving it down our throat. Also Edge collects and holds so much date, it really eats up your Ram.

Edge is the new Internet Explorer that comes with Windows 10. It loads up fast and performs well on simple web sites but it's flaky and under developed as yet. It may be a good browser one day.

Yes, Windows 10 comes with IE11 as well as Edge. Just use the search feature and type in Internet Explorer and it brings it right up. Or, just go to C:\ > Program Files(x86) > Internet Explorer.

I personally dislike Edge a lot so I am using E11 until Edge is improved or all support for IE11 ends.

As to being asked to pick a browser when clicking links...Sounds like you still have Edge set as the default web browser. Swap it to IE and that will( should )stop...

PC Settings
System
Default Apps
Set IE as default web browser

I hate it. Under developed is an understatement. Lacks tons of common sense features and user customization is little to none.

I know this is basically settled for you and people have pointed out that is an insiders release but FWIW...

I am a loyal ABP user for IE. It removes like 95-97%+ of all annoying ads. Their company website is safe to download from. If they do come out with a regular version of ABP for Edge I wouldn't hesitate to use it if that is your preferred browser.

Thanks NHHEMI, just changed my default browser to IE11 from Edge. Will try it for awhile and see how it goes, and then download ABP on your advice.

Appreciate your patience here.

I concur with using IE11 vs. Edge. I prefer Chrome over both, but we all have our preferences.

I'll also speak for Ublock Origin, or whatever it's called. I used Adblock Plus for a while, but decided that it seemed to bog down slower devices. I use Chrome because it syncs to all of my devices, including a Chromebook. ABP seemed to really slow that little Chromebook down. I looked for another solution, and found Ublock to come with high recommendations from many people on the internet. So I tried it, and I'm pretty pleased with it. I don't see ads, and browsing seems quite a bit faster, especially on the slower devices.

Either way, I think you'll be much happier with IE11 vs. Edge. Best wishes.

No Firefox for Windows 10? I'm still using Windows 7 and use Firefox 98% of the time and have the Ad Block Plus running. Never see any ads at all.
