The manual for my 2008 Ford Focus states that after market fuel additives are not necessary/recommended. I have been accustomed over the years to put in a bottle of Techron at every oil change, but this statement in my manual has me second guessing. Thoughts?

I tend to believe the owner's manual. For all my vehicles, I adopted my Ford dealer's recommendation to run something like Techron in my cars once per year. Since I have been doing that, I have had no injector issues. You might just as easily not do this, and wait until you do have an issue, but I think once a year as a preventative is sufficient.

Techron is a SAE tested and proved gasoline detergent, that has been tested and proven to clean injectors, intake valves, and related parts...MMO does NONE of this and has not been tested by a certified independent lab.

ARX is an oil additive ONLY, no??
Techron Concentrate 12 oz once per year should be all you need. Twice a year if you really like it

Having said that, I still pour in small maintenance doses of Redline's Fuel System cleaner but I personally know if many people who have 200k+ on their car's and have no idea what a fuel additive is or does... Their car seems to run just fine.

I prefer to use the "Top Tier" gas brands in my wagon with no extra additives. I know that some BITOGers argue that it is just a marketing scheme, but I believe that the auto manufacturers that endorse it know what they are doing.

All grades of Chevron gas have additives which is Techron. Lower grades have less Techron, premium has more. Adding 1 bottle of Techron once a year to cleanup any gunk in the fuel system is a good practice.

I agree that with todays cleaner running engines and gasoline, FSC aren't needed(as much/if at all). But, as stated in most owners manual that, there is no need for fuel system cleaners, really pertains to...the Mfg's don't want unsuspecting car owners to just buy any after market fuel system/injector cleaner and dump it in your gas tank.
Maybe the Mfg's should provide a list in the OM or, a type of FSC that is suitable for their fuel system such as mentioning PEA for example. And also state that..."if there is a noticable power deficiency, to use, X or Y brand.
But again, the Mfg's don't want owners putting in just anything so, they've made their statement to use nothing!

Many dealers will gladly sell you (or even push) an OEM branded bottle of fuel system cleaner that is probably rebranded Techron.

I am sure that Ford would also consider Auto-RX not acceptable as an oil additive. Maybe the people who like Auto-RX so much should contact Ford and see what Ford says about Auto-RX? And then let the rest of us know. But I doubt that will happen because I think they know what the answer would be.
