Additive for large tank of boat gas?

I have an old boat that hasn’t been ran. In about 8 months. Has twin Etec outboards. I filled it up but weather and other things kept pushing me from getting it in. What’s a good fuel additive for 150 gallons. I’m not really worried about the gas I just want to keep the Etec as running good. Something in a big jug would be great.

But is it good after the fact? I had filled it up for Fourth of July but it was so windy no one wanted to go out on the bays and it never went in. Normally I run it more but it’s been sitting. I’ve only used stabil when adding gas.

It says fuel system cleaner and ethanol neutralizer (whatever that means). I would normally use Berrymans B12 as a cleaner after something like that, but I wouldn't use something that harsh in a boat. The tanks are often plastic, or fiberglass, or other non-standard material that might be weakened by something that strong...so I only use Marine approved fuel treatments in my boat. I use the Marine STA-BIL once in fall, and I use a TCW-3 2-stroke oil at 1 ounce to 5 gallons every fill up.

If the fuel is less than 12 months old, I would have very little concern. If you are worried, fill half the tank of your car with the "old" fuel to dilute it, and fill the boat the rest of the way with STABIL and fresh premium top tier.

I had 5 year old diesel in my tractor and put in a additive and I just ran it...no issues...ran great...

I would use Marine Sta-Bil and some new fuel. You cannot de-age older fuel but you will minimize further degradation, and the new fuel will be dilutive to the aged fuel.

I am cautious about Startron after an interesting experience, and somewhat skeptical about their grand claims. I tried Startron in a ~10y/o very carefully maintained boat and had carb issues shortly thereafter, which turned out to be some sludge like debris. This occurred twice, and the boat has been fine since. My theory is that Startron, in addition to stabilizing fuel, is a rather aggressive cleaner. I would use it again in a new boat or vehicle or one that that I was sure had a very clean fuel system, unless I was prepared for the outcome.

The best time would have been in July, the second best time is today.

Startron has a good rep.

You should have enough bulk of fuel, at 150 gallons, that the interface to air is relatively small in proportion, so it should oxidize fairly slowly, all told.

I assume boats don't have much of an evaporative emissions system, so you may have lost the lighter fractions of your fuel through whatever crude tank venting you have.

I took a look at some stabil and it says to add to fresh fuel. I figured whatever I get I could hook onto the trailer and shake the boat back and forth to make it stir then sit for a bit to let it do it's job.

Some of the fuel is older. It had half a tank in June so I filled it with fresh fuel to mix it but it was so **** windy and rough we didn't put it in. I have two boats (my dad passed) so we use the other to pull my sister's kids skiing and mine has just sat there. The engines are two stroke evinrudes so my oil already is TCW-3 on teh way to the engine.

Hummmm...not sure I would trust something that claims to PROVIDE deposits

I have been using starbrite ring free with non ethenol gas so far no problems with fuel .
