I need to install a drain on a hydraulic tank. The tank metal is too thin to cut threads into to use a pipe plug, so I would need a fitting that has a thin(so all the oil drains out) flange on the inside and a nut that screws on from the outside to secure the fitting in place. Where can I find one?

Not sure but someplace like mcmaster should have it if anybody does. Would it be practicable to weld in a bung into which a plug could be placed?

If you have access to a torch, you could braze a nut to the tank. Then use a bolt with a plastic or rubber washer to seal it up. That's what I did with a transmission pan.
The tank is Stainless Steel and my very rudimentary welding skills do not extend to SS welding, that is why I was looking for a screw-on fitting. I checked out Mcmaster-Carr and they have three plastic and one SS fitting listed under Tank Fittings, the SS fitting shouild work. Strangely enough the plastic ones are pressure rated, the SS one is not.
A while ago someone had mentioned (I think it was on Bitog) getting just such a fitting from Autozone or some such parts store.I checked both the Autozone and PartsAmerica sites and did not come up with anything.

Can you get a universal transmission drain plug? Those are a hollow bolt with a nut and washer.
If you can not reach inside the tank Amsoil sells a hollow bolt that screws into a oil pan for a bypass filter. Be sure to get the washer that goes with it. Get with one of the Amsoil reps here on the board.

Some of the ATF drainplug kits requires you to have access to both sides of the pan. Do you have tank access to install a universal ATF drain plug kit?
Those drift-punched hole-in-the-pan self-threading fittings used by the 'bypass filter crowd' should work well enough.
Another option is to use an oil extractor.

The tank is not very big, about a gallon in capacity. I have access to the inside, so I can reach both sides of whatever drain fitting I end up using.
I checked out the Napa fitting, it looks like a quality fitting, the problem I see with it is that it will not let al the oil drain out, about a quarter inch is going to stay behind.
I checked out what my local auto jobber had, what he had is similar to the Napa fitting. My local farm supply place had the weld-on bungs. The Mcmaster-Carr fitting looks like it will leave about an eighth of an inch of oil behind. I would like to find a fitting which has a thin flange on the inside so that the oil can drain properly.

I know it was already mentioned but with just a gallon capacity a suction pump seems like it would work pretty fast and get it all out. Harbor Freight has some cheap ones. I mean how often does it need to be changed?
