Acura ADX - could they have picked a better name?

Can’t stand how Jeep named the larger SUV in the 90’s the “Grand Cherokee”. For car guys, it isn’t much of an issue. For 98% of the population, they’re all just “Cherokees”. Makes searching for parts a nightmare. And every time I go into a parts store or have work done on my Cherokee, “Do mean a Grand Cherokee?”. “No.”. Searching for them for sale too. Chevy Blazer/Trailblazer too. The Toyota Grand Highlander will probably see the same fate.

Remember the very popular Chevy Nova? Well, that name didn't go over well south of the border ... It was primarily intended for the NA markets. Product marketing is, obviously, based on the intended market for the product. That name cost them sales only in MX.

ADX fits into Acura's current naming convention (RDX, MDX) and by size, so why not? Who cares if it coincides with a term for a federal prison? That's not the market they are playing in. I seriously doubt this has any significant repercussions for their sales.

I got a big laugh (40 years ago) at the name for Toyota's new larger sedan; the name that looked like a typo: Camry.

And if I recall, Acura went to the "letter" names specifically to get away from their earlier normal word names, Legend, Integra, etc. Acura was concerned that the car names were becoming more well known than the company name itself (Acura being new to the market just a few years before), so they dropped the regular names and went the letters instead.

Tiguan and Touraweg?

But never forget the Isuzu iMark.
Anyone remember the commercial featuring the focus group selecting a name? "ahhhh, Skunk, Alligator......"
