AC unit runs whines/poorly when powered off the portable generator

That makes sense I suppose. All the loads in my house are 120v, except for the dryer and water heater and those are just resistive loads. The exception to that is my well pump, but it is run from a VFD style controller so I suppose it's less of an issue? But that makes me wonder how other forum members can run their ACs? Little doubt that theirs are newer ones - are they less particular?

Hopefully my 20kw enclosed standby will make clean enough power?
Of course many of the high efficiency HVAC’s are also VFD.
My dealer suggested avoiding them - eating up too much of their time … So, went with 2 stage and a nicer controller wrt to humidity and temperature …

So you're thinking that the VFD will clean up the power enough for the unit to run?

And your dealer wants you to run an older 2 stage (speed?) style unit?

7kw generator too small to start a condensing unit. It would operate small window unit. Buy one and install in one room with doors shut till power restored. I installed hard starts, boost start, on my units. And I have 20kw standby generator.
