A friend's 2010 Toyota Corolla, bought one of those 134 cans with pressure gauge and hose. The can was almost empty, probably had 2 oz in it, I was going to add a little maybe, I hooked it up, opened the valve, can was upside down, fan on, knob was coldest, 80 degrees outside, whether idle or raised, it seemed the compressor was kicking in and out every few seconds, and when compressor kicked in can gauge read 45 psi, when compressor kicked out 25 psi. Is this normal? What should the pressure be?

Normal. But the low side does not mean much. The high side should be about 2.2x Ambient temp. It varies by ambient too. That guage on on the can is just a gimmick.
That is normal operation for the a/c compressor. The kick in pressure seems right in spec for 80f. Here is a webpage with a pressure chart. http://rechargeac.com/how-to/ac-system-pressure-chart
Need both sides of the system with only the low pressure side it would only be guess.
