This is information only. Please quit adding a can of Freon yearly.
I did a 2012 Impala and AC quit after 3 years. System only holds just one lb if I remember correctly and the compressor wasn’t coming on. Hooked gauges up, yes high and low side. Pressure was low so I had to add 12 oz can and when pressure was correct I searched for leaks. Didn’t see anything and so we left it as will investigate further when she has time.
2001 Chevrolet 1500 with everything replaced he just added a can as he claimed wasn’t cool enough once a year. Never pulled a vacuum or checked high side pressure. He will bring it to me Monday for diagnostic as now compressor won’t come on. According to him he now has Freon in the green. I suspect he blew his computer as he tried to jump the system to force compressor on so he could add a can of Freon.
My own truck had engine replaced and nothing was wrong with AC. I picked it up and it cycles rather quickly but cools great. I mentioned this to tech and he swore it was normal and low side was 40. I was going through a lot with loss of wife so I never checked as I have extended warranty. Today I changed cabin filter and checked the system. Evaporator sensor showed low temperature so I hooked up the gauges. Low side 40 and high side 80. Low in Freon. Since engine was done and compressor removed I can only assume that the technician only hooked low up.
Point being there is more to AC systems than adding a can of Freon with just checking for green mark, and also very dangerous. If you never have done AC work, pay the price once to a trusted shop.
