The wifes 2013 Chevy Equinox 2.4l is out of warranty and I have decided to start taking more care of it as she only has 3 payments left. Im a Ford man so this is very, very had to swallow. Nonetheless, I got to reading the manual and found the dealer has been putting 5w30..... AC Delco dexos in it

WTH! I had no idea AC Delco made oil. How is this thing still running? I know where AC Delco standards are. How good is this oil? Where is it made china sweat shops? Ill be changing every 5k Im not sure if I want to go PP or PPU or M1, m1ep? Any recommendations? Also any suggestions on a quality filter?

AC Delco doesn't make oil

What you've got is a re-badged product produced by somebody like Warren or Mobil.

Always heard that's what it was. D1.2 no worries.

AC Delco makes some pretty shoddy products. Their blower motors are practically garbage. Also wipers that never want to seat properly. I can see your horror when you saw they used that branded oil. Thank God they don't make their own oil, it would be vegetable oil with sawdust "friction modifier"...

And there are rumors AC Delco it's blended by Phillips 66 just like Motorcraft.

You believe those products are made by AC Delco?

If they put their name on it they take full responsibility of it.

Worked at a chevy dealer in SF CA bay area few years ago and they were using Chevron bulk.

In OKC local GMC told me they used Mobil Full syn ??

Have been told by GM reps I have met and dealer shop tech guys and they all specifically recommended Chevron or Mobile for GM vehicles

I'm feeling cynical and shouldn't be posting, but...

Six year loan on an Equinox. Didn't care about it during it's formidable years but now you do after the damage is done.

Sell it and buy a Ford. Those don't need maintenance. In the meantime, change all the fluids and filters with Motorcraft parts and you won't have to worry about that anymore.

As it sits now we are having the car rebuilt. It has 60k+ on it now, brakes were just replaced saturday, it has a drivers side axle seal leak, transmission fluid they said needs replaced every 30k because the fluid is getting too dark too quick, the battery and positive wiring harness had to be replaced as corrosion ate it completely to a nub, rear wiper blade spring is shot but somehow still wipes, the muffeler needs replaced as it has split down the seam from end to end, and they say its time to replace shock absorbers although i dont see they are that bad yet... outstanding chevy quality.

So then why are you wasting money on it? Sell it and get something else.

Or there's no drain or fill plugs so you just don't do PM on the 18 ounces in that heat soaked PTU ?
New take on maintenance free.

Seriously!!
If this vehicle is as bad as OP states at barely 5 years old, why is he putting the money into it???

I'm the last guy in the world to advocate for a GM product, but this just sounds like OP is fishing for a GM bashing response here.

If it's garbage, then move on. You're just setting yourself up for 4 more years of GM bellyaching by repairing this thing.
