I typically purchase PF63 filters by the case from Rock Auto since both of our vehicles use this filter. Grabbed one out for the truck this morning and noticed it is missing the thin metal base plate piece unique to these types of filters. I don’t know how this piece affects the function of the filter or if it matters at all. I do think this is an example of poor QA/QC. I’m thinking I’m going to go ahead and use it. Can you think of a reason not to go ahead and run it?

Edit: This is the only one in the case that is like this. You can see where the plate is generally stamped into place.

It makes it easier to inspect your ADBV

Good to know as I plan to use them for the new vehicle (they're OE from pics I've seen online), and not the unused WIX from the old car.

The others might be ecore, different base holes and combo bypass valve. The kind you show, Fram new design, should be taken off the market.

Perfectly fine, just the most current design revision.

Perfectly fine? Look at the picture of the adbv in this thread. I bought one PH3614 the same as his picture, and a Supertech I just got from Walmart last week with the new design, has the adbv not sealing. These shouldn’t be sold. There is no adbv function. Besides other issues of quality inside the can.

The outer perimeter of the ADBV appears to be out to the edge, providing a seal around the inlet holes. Unless I'm not seeing something?

Check out the Baldwin B7449. No leaf spring with the bypass valve built into it. That design is prone to occasional leaking by the leaf spring, rendering the oil bypass valve useless. Baldwin is made in USA by a USA owned company. You would be better off in both runs, long and short. Baldwin sells their filters worldwide protecting multi-million-dollar equipment. Check them out. https://www.baldwinfilters.com/us/en.html

Look at the gap at the edge of the holes on the Fram shown. The topic filter may or may not have it. I saw it on my Fram and ST 3614 so it isn’t rare. This is a new design..

I wasn't looking at the Fram posted, this thread is about the PF63 at top. Which as I said, looks fine.

It can achieve AABV status even with a knock or vibration. There is no center holding. I don’t think anything as bad as this has been accomplished before. Shown Delco may have the gap have to look at it with a light.

I appreciate everyone’s input. It is just the new design. Kind of interesting that it was the only filter of the new design within the case.

That design has been around for while. I bought 6 months ago.

I like the old design, the ecore, better. I used one on an older vehicle. Oil pressure went up fast and there were no issues. I have one more left. It has the combo bypass/ adbv. Some don’t like the valve. It seems like it was a good invention to me. All one piece rubber, very simple and consistent to make, cheap to make once the process is set up.
