Hey Guys,

Trying to cut costs on oil changes and I was wondering if you think the classic AC Delco filter will do fine on 7,500 mile OCI that is 80% HWY and 20% city?

Look into a P1, NG or Wix or even a Puro Classic. I think those have a pretty good track record. If the AC Delco classic is an e-core filter like I'm thinking it is, personally, I'd be kinda wishy washy on driving it 7,500.

I wouldn't sleep well knowing I was running an ecore filter for 7.5k I would defiantly look into getting a pure one for that change

I don't be believe the Classic is an e-core. E-cores are Duraguards.

Most here would probably think 7500 is a stretch with a Classic. Could always try it once and open it up to see what you think.

There are so many filters of better quality for the same price or 2-3 bucks more. Over 7500miles that is chump change. Invest in a decent filter for your vehicle, it will thank you for it.

Not saying that the delco's are all bad. I just prefer non E-Core. The Classic isn't a horrible filter. Just better options out there. Filtration is so important, especially when extending OCI's past 5k.

The Classic AC Delco is not an e-core. You can open it up and tell...inner tube is black plastic = e-core, if it is metal = it's a classic. Plus the box usually has an e after the PF48 etc if it's an e-core.

So, should I stick then with the Bosch Distance Plus I was using on my last OCI or the Mobil 1 EP filter I am currently running?

I am wanting to go back to the QSUD, though, so I was wondering what the best filter option would be.

+1. The Classic is not ecore, and may do the miles, but it is no cheaper than these filters listed and not quite as good as these--in my opinion.

river rat, what makes you say that the classic design isn't as good as the Wix and Purolator offerings? The nitrile adbv?

I think this post sums it up perfectly---7500 and more.

I wouldn't say a P1 is better than a non-ECore AC-look how many P1 torn filter media we've seen this year-plenty

The Delco Classics are NOT an Ecore.
They are a very well made filter, I would say comparable quality with Wix or Purolator. I would have no issues running one for 7500.

They appear to be a little less in the filtration department. I don't like the clicker bypass design all that much. But just my opinons.

I think the Ecore basic design has promise with a few modifications.
I am kind of afraid of the execution of it though. Seeing the cage apparently acting like a cookie cutter in some cases and chopping a chunk of media out.
Now where did that filter paper go? Could block an oil gallery.
Scary.

I am, however, running an STP Ecore at the moment on my old VW van because I want to cut it open and post pictures to see what, if anything, 20W-50 does to it. I would not put one on my wife's car or my truck cause I wouldn't chance it from seeing the pictures of the failures.
