AC compressor won't turn on.

Last summer I noticed the ac was not as strong.

A couple of weeks ago I turned on the AC but the compressor would not turn on, so I added refrigerant . The compressor turned on and it was cold. Fast forward a few weeks, it got less cold and finally the compressor would not turn on.
So again I attempted to add refrigerant but this time the compressor would not engage.

I believe that your compressor will not engage if your refrigerant is low to prevent damage.

Yes I know. But while your refilling with refrigerant, the compressor is supposed to turn on.

It did a few weeks ago but it's not doing so now.

I need pressure tests.
Static and running at a determined temperature.
Sure sounds like you have a leak.

+1 Are you using a set of high/low gauges or just a can with a dummy gauge on it?

You mention no vehicle info.....

If the PCM has detected a fault code it may need to be cleared before the compressor will engauge and take in any refrigerant.

I know older cars would need the clutch hot wired at the pressure switch connector.
