Type 27 = Flat
Type 29 = Angled/Beveled

Which type do you use?
Do you use the disc with or without the guard?

Usually 27. A flat/squared disc rounds with use anyway. To me using a 29 is like starting with a worn disc, like buying jeans that are pre-ripped.

Of my ~dozen 4.5/5" grinders I only have a guard on the 12A with cutting wheel, mostly because that grinder has the power to really frag a wheel if things go south.

They are a good idea but so impractical for access. There's safety on paper and then there's real-world. But I absolutely believe each person should assume risk(s) with which they are personally comfortable -- a concept we collectively abandoned about three years ago.....
