A/T repair/replacement shops in Toronto area?

car has 45000miles. babied since new. car has a problem with the a/t, after about 20 minutes of driving with everything warmed up there is a low idle in gear condition followed by a metallic knocking sound coming from the bellhousing. Intermittent stalling especially in Reverse. I'm assuming the TQ is getting ready to wave bye bye.
I ordered some auto-rx but I'm not holding out too much hope.
anyways, any recommendation on A/T repair/replacement shops in the GTA? Or should I just get a japanese market used transmission put in and be done with it?

Go that site look for your unit.

Jasper is a very respectable company for remanufactured engines/transmissions/differentials.

The reason i make the recommendation that is i rather get a reman. transmission assembly over a rebuilt one. You mentioned a salvage unit? IS cost the prime determinant of your decision?

Jasper is not significantly more expensive versus a shop. Jaspers also upgrades the known weakpoints on there units.

Your new trans (assuming in stock) will have a 3yr/75,000 mile warranty as well.

price is not the main determinant. long term no headache driving is.
I was leaning towards a used japanese market transmission because I have yet to meet one person who got an import transmission rebuilt and was still happy after 1+yrs of ownership.

the acura dealer quoted me $2500CDN. for a honda reman. transmission.

I got my remanufactured transmission from these folks and have been 100% satisfied with their product which is still working find after 16k miles in the past 8 months.

I actually bought mine from them on Ebay. They usually auction 1-2 transmissions for most popular vehicles and you can get the transmission cheaper than you could from their website.

Sorry to hear you wasted you money on auto-rx for the transmission. Too many here promote it as a cure all and I'm starting to suspect there probably some hidden motivation (financial) for doing so.

I also live in the Toronto area so I looked at this thread as it's always good to know who's reputable around.

One thing that crossed my mind, is the economics of doing this.

The Acura dealer quoted him $2500 CDN for a transmission. I don't know that this includes 10 hours of labour for installation, I will hope it does otherwise add an extra grand, then taxes. So eventually we are now at $4000.

So, when you have a car that you took care of, the engine is good, the body is good, but the transmission is dead. There may be no point getting it replaced or fixed because if it's a domestic it would be cheaper to simply buy a newer model year used car for the same amount of money.

it's $2500 list price. I'm sure I can get that lowered a bit by shopping around. install is actually exceedingly easy from what a couple of acura mechanic friends have told me. any good independent can do it for $500 no problems or worries.

the car is a keeper, no doubt. I will get it fixed, just figuring out my options.
