a single 30 weight

If you were to buy a single brand (, ?w/30 weight oil fo all 3 vehicles, what do you recommend for 6000 mile oci's with supertech filters on the following:

2004 gmc envoy with 4.2l I6 (7qt cap. 50/50 hwy,city miles)

06 dodge ram 3.7l (heavy truck, small sohc engine, lots of 3 mile trips)

06 mazda5 2.3l (dohc 4cy, 50/50 hwy/city)

I have my preferances but would like to know what you would choose and why, given the vehicle specifics. i wouldnt want an oil that is marginal in the 6000 mile oci.

i have been running gtx to 3-4 thousand oci's which im sure is fine, but just seeing what you think.

+1...or actually, ANY sale synthetic you can get - Synpower, Syntec...

If you want to look to save costs, Havoline 5w30 would be a great choice - thin enough (9.7 cst) to work in a 20-weight application, stout enough to handle that service in all 3....

Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, Mobil 1 5w30, Castrol Syntec 5w30 etc. They're all good.

Set a price, say 3bucks a quart for syn and start a stash of 5w30 and 10w30's of various origin when the prices are right. Be careful. It's a slippery slope. Once you get locked into a serious collection, the tendancy is to take it as far as you can.

Tell me about it. I have no idea why I am building a stash. It's like collecting coins or something. I can't stop.

i wonder how supertech's synthetic would do for 6000 oci's??

would the add pack give up too soon?

i like the pp ,but it just seemed to cause a little sluggishness in the 3.7l (mabey just a head thing)but it did do a great job cleaning, in 3000 miles it was black.

I agree. Considering you can now get Mobil 1 0w30 at Walmart for $22, minus the $10 rebate from Mobil, it's a kind of no brainer.

I'd go with whatever 5w30 synthetic or blend you can get on sale.

Thats part of the challenge. And thank god it is a challenge or I'd have to open up a jiffy lube in my garage.

Currently in my garage:
A few 5qt jugs of M1 @ 5qts for 12 bucks with rebate.
Another of Quaker State Horsepower for 8 after rebate.
and a case of Napa Syn for 3.19. I gave in in a moment of weakness.
And some random BOGOF PP quarts still laying around, 2 bucks a quart!

It's like the NFL draft. You need to let the deals come to you.

Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w30 is $22 at Wally's with a $10 MIR.
