A Good Laugh

It's about CYA and the bottom line for U-Haul. It's easier to blame the lawyers than for them, U-Haul, to actually look at the change from body on frame to unibody and change the policy for the newer Explorer. That plus U-Haul corporate doesn't have to be concerned about whether one of rentees/dealers knows the difference in design and/or be concerned about the year of the Explorer. It's expedient just to keep the ban on all Explorers.

I'm not buying all of U-Haul's drivel here. They could change the policy with the new Explorers if they wanted, they're using yesterday's experience, to blame keeping the policy the same for the new Explorers.

fwiw, when my son purchased his 05 Explorer one of the first things he told me was he couldn't rent a UHaul to move his stuff with it.

People won't buy Firestone tires today because of the past history either.
Sounds like it's going to take a while to live that mess down for Ford and Firestone.

It's too bad that U-Haul has to lose business to Explorer owners but why tempt fate .....
nothing to laugh about here.

I think the IRS on the Explorer is a good thing for ride and handling but takes up a lot of room - it looks like only a factory engineered hitch is going to work back there.

U-Haul is a joke. I tried to rent a car trailer from them a few years ago. They said that I needed a 3/4 ton truck or larger. So I drove my 3/4 ton International down there to get the trailer.

This truck has a full floating rear axle, 2 sets of factory installed over load springs etc. It's considered a 3/4 ton but is more HD than a new 1 ton.

U-haul does not have my truck in their system. They show a Scout but a Scout is a 1/4 ton so they won't rent a car trailer out to those which is good. But since they don't have my truck in their system they won't rent to me either.

I find it funny that they will rent to a Wrangler but only with a hard top. There is a sticker on my hard top that says that it's for protection from the elements only and wont help in a roll over.

The wrangler hard top is thin plastic.

That was the only question(Explorer?) they asked when a friend was using a Honda Civic to tow (not rated to tow anything).

Corporate litigation is beyond expensive. I only know because my sis in law shared how much she made per year

Its even dumber than that. You can rent a trailer from U-Haul with a Mercury Mountaineer from the same generation that was the subject of the Explorer lawsuits. It is the exact same vehicle with different badges, that's it. Absolute legal lunacy...

Same probably goes for the Mazda Navajo.
