Hey all, as soon as its warm enough I will be helping a friend change the ATF in a car that he just picked up, a 1995 Cavalier Z24 with the 4T40-E transmission. I have a few questions; how hard is it to do a pan drop on this transmission, how many quarts will we need for just a pan drop, and what fluid brand works best in this application? I'm partial to Castrol Transmax but he is open to anything. Thanks!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Transmax. If you like it, go for it!

Other suggestions are Maxlife, and Mag 1 Synthetic ATF. Amazon has a case of Mag 1 for under $25, and it is probably the cheapest GM-approved Dexron VI you'll find anywhere, local or online. Part #64092

But really, they're not picky at all.

Look for an aftermarket transmission pan that has a drain plug, so that future ATF changes won't be so bad.
