Hello again Bitog. So over the last few years I had 3 a/c compressors on 3 cars give up their ghosts. I got the replacement compressor's online for cheap, so now I got three bad compressors laying in my garage. Is there any way to monetize them somehow? Is "scrap metal" the only option or can I sell them to some place that rebuilds them? Or maybe more options?

if you live near a big city area there is likely a local shop that specializes in such things, for example in south dallas there is a place that buys transmission cores, etc.

Otherwise like you said, best bet would be the local scrapyard which pays per pound. To make it worth it I horde a bunch and take it in via one batch every 6 months or so. This saturday I am hauling a bunch of computer parts and a 95 buick century which will be torn asunder and made anew.

The local scrap yards used to pay extra for used outdoor AC compressors. As of about 6 months ago, they no longer give extra money for a core. In other words, they are worth no more than other scrap metal. They told me that the Chinese and Mexican manufacturing has ruined the core market.

We scrap ours also. A lot of them now have no core value, even the reman ones.
