hey guys, currently my truck is at 161k and i have just used havoline 10w30 and a super tech filter for my oil changes. I notice im losing a few quarts between changes, could it be the type of oil im using? i dont really have ne major leaks that i know of. would switching to a high mileage oil help at all with the mileage my truck has? thanks in advance guys!

You did not mention the maintenance history or your OCI.

For reference I have a 1997 5.7L GM at 138K uses zero oil in 3K OCI on dino and 2/3qt at 6K when using Syntec. BUT most of it's life has seen 3K OCI so it's clean/maintained and probably about as good as can be expected.

I have used HM stuff in another application and don't think it does anything substantial.

I prefer to change the oil rather than add a lot during an OCI. Maybe add 1 qt during an OCI and change it when it's at the bottom of dipstick. Dirty oil seems to get consumed faster at least in my other applications.

Most times, only one OCI with High Mileage oils won't produce the results we like. Try three OCIs of High Mileage oils - giving it more time to clean the seals.
