87 Toyota Camry ? about changing Oil Interval

Hello to all,
Here is a good question for everyone they say now to change your oil with (regular non synthetic oil) every 3k or so. So my question then is why does it say in my owners manual for my 87 Camry to change the oil every 6k and in my 1990 Honda its says every 7,5k? This does not make any sense to me there is little difference in the oil from back then and why should I change it every 3k if the owners manual is telling me change it every 6k? Please advise here and give input as I am confused thanks for your help.

Toyota had an issue with a limited subset of their later (late 90s, early 2000s?) engines sludging, so they universally dropped the OCIs to 5,000 miles in the US. While one needs to stick to those intervals for the warranty, one can safely extend intervals for non-sludging engines.

As for the 3,000 mile OCI, it's generally unnecessary. I don't really know of anyone who actively recommends 3,000 mile OCIs for normal service other than quick lube places.

Re-read your Honda owners manual. See if you fall under the severe service category. If so, it states 3 months/3,750mi (mine says 3 months/6000km).

Okay NOBODY IS ANSWERING THE QUESTION HERE.... if its not 3k you change your oil then what is the recommend oil change time?

Depends on your use, the vehicle and does it have anything wrong with it these days.

No blanket answer. But 3k for most people using todays excellent conventional oils is too short. How much longer? Have to have a LOT more info.

Thanks for giving some form of a answer. I usually go with 5k or sooner but I am thinking that is too soon to change hence why I am asking the ? about this. No major problems with the car and I run quaker state, Pennzoil, or i don't remember nothing special regualar motor oil (old school).

I put 4k on conventional oil for my mom's 92 I-4 camry. Going strong with 227k miles.

5k is a good number IMO. But again depends on HOW you make the 5k. If you get those miles mostly on the highway with not much stop and go then 5k may too early.

If the 5k is all stop and go then 5k may be a little long.

A used oil analysis does provide some info on how everything is working together.

Here is THEY....
There are alot of opinions on how often to change oil, but 3K miles for conventional oil and 5K for synthetic oils are conservative and should be fine for most any engine (YMMV).

EVERYONE I HAVE EVER TALKED TO HAS TOLD ME TO DO THE ABOVE....... Car places, dealers, lube shops, auto parts stores, radio, tv, [censored] even all my teachers said that. SO THAT DEFINES THEY.....

7500 miles with a good oil for a Toyota engine with fairly mixed driving (freeway+city).Have you read factory shop manual for your car and/or Haynes manual for OCIs?

I drive a '94 Geo Prizm with Toyota engine and the factory suggests 7500 OCIs under normal driving conditions.

I did my last oil change after driving 9500 miles on Castrol Syntec 0W-30, you could do the same.

I usually go about 5,000 miles between changes, conventional oil. I would go a little sooner if there was a lot of time(9 months+/-) to get to 5k.

The owner's manual for my '87 Camry states to change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles under "severe" driving conditions.

It also states to change the oil and filter every 10,000 miles under "normal" conditions.

I run Shell Rotella T 10w30 (conventional) and I change the oil between 5k-7k miles. Some would say this is interval is too soon.
